Julia Noyes, owner of Noyes Art Gallery in Lincoln, works both sides of the grain - organizing and managing a co-op gallery, and creating her own artwork. Julia received her B.A. in art from Wayne State, her M.A. in art from the University of Nebraska - Kearney. She has traveled the world, living in Italy, China, Russia and Egypt; and received art instruction from masters in those locales. She feels her work ( which is primarily abstract) has been greatly influenced by her traveling, and the diversity of her life experiences. Much of her work is large, of mural proportions, and her love of teaching has taken her into many schools to work with kids, leaving behind artwork as proof of her endeavors there. She also gives many adult classes and workshops, having recently taught at the ANAC Conference, hosted here in June, and she has scheduled an all day class here during her show. Julia pulls creativity from every experience in her life, including the managing of her gallery. Working with artists, who bring new things into her gallery every month inspires her to constantly search for new ways of seeing things, new ways of doing things.

Using natural wood formations. Artist, Kevin Baker cuts, carves, sands and sculpts wood into 3-D landscapes.
Utilizing found driftwood, burls and knots, he seeks out beautiful wood that canbe manipulated into memories of actual and imagined land-scapes. Using mixed media techniques, he adds textures to depict scenes such as deserts, snowscapes, cliff dwellings and waterfalls.
Baker says ” My knowledge comes from personal experiences from around the world. While living in Turkey, explored many wilderness areas abundant with waterfalls of all sizes.” After years of extensively experiencing caves, national parks, deserts and diverse lands in Arizona, Montana and Nebraska, Baker developed a strong desire to create scenes of nature in wood. With every trek, he rediscovers something about himself and transforms those feelings and ideas into his art.

After retiring from the Navy, Steven Williamson has pursued a career in art. His colored pencil pieces share his unique
vision, always evoking a dream like or fantasy quality. He might be classified as a surrealist – extremely realistic, but with a surprise. “Oh, my gosh!” is a frequent response to his work, followed by a closer examination of the piece. It’s never what you first thought it was. “I have always been interested in art and design. I have taken a few other artistic paths to get to this metal art phase: printing, painting, hand painting textiles, dying silk, photography. Each of these has given me artistic information.

“Art Deco Revisited” Mary Anne Chisholm
Mary Anne Chisholm has been welding steel and copper for about 9 years. She is totally consumed with the steel, welder, band saws, benders and grinders. She has found that her love of simple line designs gets to come out and all those years of looking at pictures and attempting to make good designs just rushes forward. Steel and glass have really taken her interest, as can be witnessed in her portion of the show.
